The Trade and Development Report (TDR), launched in 1981, is issued every year for the annual session of the Trade and Development Board. The Report analyses current economic trends and major policy issues of international concern, and makes suggestions for addressing these issues at various levels. TDR is one of the flagship reports in the field of international development.
Robots, industrialization and inclusive growth
This seminar looks at potential impacts of industrial robots on developing countries' industrialization strategies and distributional changes. It emphasizes that robot use depends on both technological and economic feasibility and discusses the substitution of occupational tasks with industrial robots. It presents evidence on robot deployment and examines potential effects on structural transformation and employment and wage developments, as well as related policy issues.
【Speaker】
J?rg Mayer is a Senior Economist at the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD). After a temporary assignment as Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD during the preparation of UNCTAD's 14th conference in 2016, he has returned to the team that prepares UNCTAD’s annual Trade and Development Report. Before joining the United Nations in 1991, he was an economist in the International Department of the German central bank. His areas of expertise include development strategies and the interrelationships between macroeconomic policies, trade, investment, employment and growth. He has published his work in peer-reviewed journals, books and conference volumes. He holds a PhD in economics from the European University Institute in Florence (Italy).

The New Structural Economics & International Development Forum was initiated in March 2016 and is co-organized by the Center for New Structural Economics (CNSE) and the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) at Peking University.
