Content introduction:

[Hong Kong, 20 June 2018] Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited ("SHKP") announced today (20 June) that it has made a donation of RMB 5 million to the Institute of New Structural Economics ("INSE") at Peking University through the Peking University Education Foundation.  This recently established "SHKP New Structural Economics Research and Development Fund" will promote and support INSE’s faculty development, theoretical innovation, teaching and research, international exchange, student cultivation and other related areas.

SHKP Chairman and Managing Director and Peking University Honorary Trustee Mr. Raymond Kwok said: “As Peking University celebrates its 120th anniversary, we are delighted to initiate the SHKP New Structural Economics Research and Development Fund to support research of New Structural Economics.  We believe that under the leadership of Peking University and Dean Mr. Justin Yifu Lin, the Institute of New Structural Economics will continue to provide support for the sustainable economic growth and development of China, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region through insightful researches and innovations.”

On behalf of the University, Peking University Vice-President and Peking University Education Foundation Vice-Chairman Professor Wang Bo expressed his appreciation for the care and support from SHKP and the University’s Honorary Trustee Mr. Kwok.  As an old friend of Peking University, SHKP has long been providing the University with valuable support.  Professor Wang believes that under the leadership of Professor Lin, INSE will live up to the trust and expectation of the community by making advancements in theoretical innovation and providing new contributions.

Professor Justin Lin Yi-fu, Dean of the Institute of New Structural Economics at Peking University, said: “We are grateful for Mr. Kwok’s aspiration to serve people and dedication to making the world a better place for all.  We extend our deep gratitude to him for supporting INSE.  This Institute will continue to uphold its academic mission of 'knowing and achieving being one', and endeavor unremittingly in theoretical innovation and policy practice.”

New Structural Economics is a set of economic development theories introduced and promoted by Professor Lin, renowned economist and former Chief Economist of the World Bank, that are widely applicable to different countries and regions at various developmental stages.  With respect to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("Hong Kong") and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, New Structural Economics can diagnose issues of concern in Hong Kong in order to resolve structural dilemmas faced by the city's current economic development.  This will enhance Hong Kong’s prominent status as an international finance, shipping and trading centre as well as integrate Hong Kong more smoothly into the nation’s development, as the city assumes its new role and goal in the overall development strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
