Seminar Abstract
«Multilateral Development Bank's System: Scope, Impact, and Challenges Ahead». This talk surveys today's multilateral development bank (MDB) ecosystem, how global and regional MDBs complement each other through policy advice, risk-mitigation tools, and cross-border project finance. It outlines core mandates: sustainable growth, regional connectivity, private-capital mobilization, and delivery of regional public goods, before turning to current headwinds: climate ambition vs. constrained concessional resources, bankability of complex cross-border infrastructure. The discussion will examine how China-based MDBs (AIIB and NDB) add fresh momentum via innovative co-financing and standards for sustainable infrastructure.
Speaker Bio
Nikolai PODGUZOV is Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), since 2020. A highly accomplished executive and an expert in the economies of the CIS and Central Asia regions with over two decades of experience in international cooperation, investment, and the banking sector, he has held key leadership roles in both the public and private sectors.
Nikolai PODGUZOV sits on the Board of Directors of ADFIAP and the Foreign Investors Council under the President of Kazakhstan, and is a frequent speaker at major international forums, including Boao Forum, the UN Water Conference, Abu Dhabi Finance Week, the Astana International Forum, WB/AIIB/IsDB forums and etc. He holds degrees in technical sciences and international economics and advises Central Asian governments on sustainable development and investment strategy.
