Journal of New Structural Economics (JNSE) is a professional academic journal dedicated to advancing the theoretical development and disciplinary construction of new structural economics, with Professor Justin Yifu Lin serving as Editor-in-Chief. Guided by the editorial philosophy of “grounded in China, open to the world, rooted in practice, pursuing integrity and innovation,” the journal is committed to promoting independent theoretical innovation based on Chinese experience and building a high-quality, specialized, and international platform for publication and academic exchange in the field of new structural economics.
I. Mission
The founding of Journal of New Structural Economics aims to establish a high-level academic exchange platform, deepen research in the field of new structural economics, and drive the continuous advancement of knowledge, theory, and methodology innovation. The journal seeks to build an autonomous knowledge system of new structural economics, achieve a structural revolution in modern economics, and demonstrate the original value and contemporary significance of Chinese economics.
Guided by the editorial philosophy of “grounded in China, open to the world, rooted in practice, pursuing integrity and innovation,” the journal is dedicated to providing a high-quality, specialized, and international publication and exchange platform for academic works that employ the analytical perspective of “one center, three basic points” to study the patterns of economic development, transition, and operation in China and other countries at different development stages. Through these efforts, the journal aims to promote the continuous deepening of knowledge, theory, and methodology innovation in new structural economics and facilitate the ongoing refinement of its autonomous knowledge system.
II. Columns and Core Topics
The journal features four major columns, covering the complete research chain from foundational theory to practical application:
1. Paradigm and Methodology — Focusing on foundational theoretical research in new structural economics, this column promotes the axiomatization, systematization, and mathematical formalization of the “one center, three basic points” academic paradigm. It aims to develop widely applicable methods of structural optimization and structural equilibrium analysis in modern economics, and to refine identifiable concepts and original theoretical frameworks that are empirically testable, extensible, and generalizable, thereby consolidating the theoretical foundations of the discipline.
2. Theory and Evidence — Based on in-depth analysis of empirical phenomena, this column supports theoretical extension and innovation across sub-fields of new structural economics, as well as the application of new structural economics theory to explain real-world economic phenomena and test theoretical hypotheses. Submissions are expected to combine rigorous theoretical modeling with robust empirical analysis, achieving mutual corroboration between theory and practice.
3. Case Studies — Adopting the new structural economics perspective, this column features in-depth analyses of representative and exemplary economic events across countries and regions. Submissions require authentic and complete core data, clearly delineated factual contexts, rigorous analytical logic, and dual value in both theoretical insight and practical guidance.
4. Insights and Reflections — Drawing on the new structural economics perspective, this column reveals the essence, fundamental determinants, and key mechanisms of real-world economic phenomena or issues through rigorous argumentation supported by data and logical reasoning. Such research should offer theoretical inspiration for expanding new structural economics innovation and provide directional guidance for subsequent model construction and econometric testing.
Core topics encompass but are not limited to: theoretical expansion and innovation of the new structural economics framework; sub-disciplinary research in new structural finance, new structural macroeconomics, new structural environmental economics, new structural industrial economics, and related fields; case analyses of factor endowment-based industrial upgrading in developing countries and regions; pathways for economic transition and sustainable development from the new structural economics perspective; theoretical and practical research on effective markets and facilitating government; industrial clusters and regional development studies; structural change, industrial transfer, and international trade.
III. Academic Features and Editorial Objectives
Academic Features:
• Deep Theoretical Foundations: New structural economics is fundamentally guided by Marxist dialectical and historical materialism, taking factor endowments and their structure as the starting point of its theoretical system. It incorporates the scientific core of the rational agent hypothesis from neoclassical economics, forming an analytical perspective grounded in Chinese practice with general theoretical applicability.
• Methodological Innovation: Integrating the Marxist principle of “material primacy” with the ontological core of the rational agent hypothesis in modern economics, new structural economics advances the “one center, three basic points” analytical methodology, achieving a structural revolution across sub-field theoretical systems of mainstream neoclassical economics.
• Double-Blind Peer Review: The journal implements a rigorous double-blind peer review system, with a review process comprising initial screening, external review, and final review, ensuring academic quality and fairness.
• Research Reproducibility Management: All submissions are required to provide supporting materials as specified by journal policy, safeguarding the scientific rigor and verifiability of published research.
Editorial Objectives:
• Continuously deepen knowledge, theory, and methodology innovation in new structural economics, and build a theoretical system with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese spirit.
• Respond to the call of the times, root deeply in Chinese practice, and bring economics theories originating from Chinese practice to the world — sharing China’s development experience and contributing Chinese economic wisdom to the global community.
• Inject robust theoretical momentum into advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
